On Happiness and Sorrow

happyalways

Miseries, failures, tragedies and disappointments in life are inevitable. But on that ground we should not sink in an endless sorrow. We have to outgrow anguish as quickly as possible. For it eats up the personality as a whole.

There’s no market for our sorrows in this world, so we should never advertise them.”

“Sometimes…

Hurt and adversities are needed to make us grow,

Failures are needed to make us know,

Loss is needed to make us gain,

because some lessons are best when learnt through pain.”

“We are like tea-bags, whose true strength comes out when we are put in hot water.”

But…

“God has four gifts for us:

key for every problem,

light for every shadow,

plan for every tomorrow

and a joy for every sorrow.”

“Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open.” John Barrymore

Unhappiness is not knowing what we want and killing ourselves to get itHappiness is a conscious choice, not an automatic response. Most people would rather be certain they are miserable, than risk being happy.

“Happiness is not by chance but by choice.” – Jim Rohn

“You do not find a happy life. You make it.” – Camilla Erying Kimball

Happiness always looks small when we try to hold it to ourselves, but when we learn to share it, we realize how big and precious it is.

Doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do is happiness.

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour

Never search for happiness in other things and beings, which will make you feel lonely in their absence. Rather search it in yourself, you will always be happy and never suffer from lonelinesseven when you are left alone.

No man in this world is rich enough to buy even one moment of his own past. So, live each moment of life. Living in the present moment means conscious action, not mechanical movements.

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory.”  Dr Seuss

“People who have magnetic personalities are simple people who live hundred percent in the present moment. The field of peace, happiness and positive energy that surrounds them is so magnetic that it spontaneously and unconsciously draws everyone to them.”

Smile and tears rarely meet, but when they do, the moment becomes unforgettable!

— An Explanation by Bhagawan Ramana Maharishi… Why does my mind keep running outside all the time — why does it not meditate by itself? A devotee asked Ramana Maharishi: “Why do we need to meditate? I say it is “my mind” — then should it not listen to me and meditate by itself when I […]

Happiness is a conscious choice, yes but quite a few people unknowingly have made sorrow their choice. As a saint remarked, they have begun to enjoy the feeling of sorrow. So, they always see the negative aspect of everything and brood over how a thing on hand can go wrong.I also suffered this mindset to some extent till a few years ago. Hope readers will take the crux of the message here and change their lives for the better.
