Forget and Be Grateful

happyalways

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey, they had an argument and one friend slapped the other one.

The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand:

Today my best friend slapped me.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him.

After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:

Today my best friend saved my life.

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now you write on a stone, why?”

The other friend replied, “When someone hurts us, we should write it on sand, where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”

We should learn to write our hurts on sand and to carve our benefits in stone!!!

People are bereft of gratitude, which is not right. We should be grateful for the help we have received from others for the rest of our lives.

There are two things we must forget: the harm others have done to us and the help we have rendered to others. Remembrance of the harm done to us by others generates in us a sense of revenge. If we remember the help we have rendered to others, we will always expect something in return from them.

We should remember only the help we have received from others and forget the hurts we have received. The one with these sacred qualities is an ideal human being.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.

Do not value the things you have in your life. But value who you have in your life!

“If you are alone, I’ll be your shadow.

If you want to cry, I’ll be your shoulder.

If you need to be happy, I’ll be your smile.

But any time you need a friend, I’ll just be me.

Life is not a destination, but an exciting and adventurous journey. Don’t rush through life so fast that you miss discovering joys in the smallest and the most insignificant things in your life.

Take the time to live!

Happiness is not something you find outside.

It’s something you discover within.”

The help we do others make us feel we are to be treated generously or respectfully by the other person. My confession is that the maturity to forget all help I did appear to be more elusive than having the sense of gratitude to one who has done big and small help to me. Maybe, I must constantly be aware of the noble thoughts of sages, and I thank Guruji for spreading those thoughts.
