Dealing with Negative Situations…

happyalways

When there is a negative situation that you cannot change, accept it and focus your thoughts and energy elsewhere.

When there is a pain that will not go away, overwhelm it with an even greater amount of joy.

Have the courage to change what you can, serenity to accept what you cannot changeand the wisdom to know the difference.

Common sense in an uncommon degree is wisdom.

Don’t despair over the darkness that is beyond your control. Instead, shine your own light so brightly that the darkness is overwhelmed.

It serves no useful purpose to get mired in despair over things you cannot controlIt makes much more sense to do the very best, to achieve the very most, with those things you do control.

You can choose where to focus your energy and attention. Focus on those areas where you can have a powerful positive impact.

Yes, it can be easy to get caught up in the negativity of the momentYet, it can also be surprisingly easy to shift our focus toward the positive, productive things we can do.

If you really want to contribute to life, set your sights on the value you’re able to create.

Unhappiness is not knowing what we want and killing ourselves to get it.

Happiness is a conscious choice, not an automatic response.

We cannot prevent the birds of sadness from flying over our head, but we can prevent them from nesting in our hair

We simply cannot be unhappy unless we have decided to be unhappy. Most people would rather be certain they are miserable, than risk being happy.

We are never obligated to be miserable. Nobody really cares if we are miserable.  So, we might as well be happy.

No one is in charge of your happiness except you. Make up your mind to be happy. Discover and know joys in the smallest and the most insignificant things. Learn to find pleasure in simple things.

Keep yourself busy. A Busy person never has time to be unhappy.

Life is not lived in the tomb of the dead moments of the past, nor in the womb of the unborn moments of the future. Do not regret. Life is not a continuous procession of past regrets and future anxietiesNever ever live with regret. Whatever happened was destined to happen only that way. Why cry over spilled milk?

Learn from the past and move on. We should never brood over the past. We cannot change a single moment of our past, but we can ruin the present by nurturing grievances and worrying about the future. So, make peace with your past so that it doesn’t mess-up the present.

Life is lived dynamically in the present moment.

Living in the present means conscious actionnot mechanical movement.

Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it! Whatever you want to do, do it nowThere are only so many tomorrows.

Live in the now and enjoy the present moment.

Philosophy of Life…!

A boat docked in a tiny Mexican fishing village.  A tourist complimented the local fishermen on the quality of their fish and asked how long it took them to catch them. “Not very long,” they answered in unison. “Why didn’t you stay out longer and catch more?” The fishermen explained that their small catches were […]

Why Do We Need to Meditate?

— An Explanation by Bhagawan Ramana Maharishi… Why does my mind keep running outside all the time — why does it not meditate by itself? A devotee asked Ramana Maharishi: “Why do we need to meditate? I say it is “my mind” — then should it not listen to me and meditate by itself when I […]

Each word and each thought about not getting mired in misery is true. But negative circumstances or suffering are also real. Howsoever, one may try not to feel sorrowful the sorrows stay. Knowing the truth is not difficult but understanding the truth is too difficult. Helplessness is what makes one more miserable.
Swami-ji, you may like to dwell upon it more.

When there is lack of shraddha (faith plus element of complete surrender without reservation) or a flaw in shraddha, then there is a sense of helplessness. Shraddha is very powerful, as the saying goes “Faith can move mountains”. There are many examples of how shraddha made that which was seemingly impossible, possible. Sorrow looks back, worry looks around and faith looks up…
Have shraddha and be at peace.

    Hari Aum,
    Swami-ji
This article is very nice and this sentence, “Keep yourself busy. A Busy person never has time to be unhappy” is powerful. It is also useful to prevent negative thinking. We should always be busy in our lives. Negative thoughts are bound to create problems. I have been through several negative experiences in my life. These invariably give rise to negative thoughts in my mind, but your teachings help me overcome them. As said in the article, I also endeavor to “surrender to God” completely without any reservation for peace of mind.
Your blessings are always with me and my family.
