Stochastic Probability Theory: Pregnant Deer Scenario
Consider this scenario:
In a remote forest, a pregnant deer is about to give birth to a baby. It finds a remote grass field near by a river and slowly goes there thinking it would be safe. As she moves slowly, she gets labor pain; at the same moment, dark clouds gather around that area and lightning starts a forest fire. Turning left she sees a hunter who is aiming an arrow from a distance. As she tries to move towards right, she spots a hungry lion approaching towards her.
What can the pregnant deer do, as she is already under labor pain?
What do you think will happen?
Will the deer survive?
Will it give birth to a fawn?
Will the fawn survive? Or
Will everything be burnt down by the forest fire?
That particular moment…
Can the deer go left? – Hunter’s arrow is aiming at her.
Can she go right? – Hungry lion is approaching.
Can she move up? – There’s forest fire.
Can she move down? – There’s fierce river.
Answer: She does nothing. She just focuses on giving birth to a new life.
The sequence of events that happens at that fraction of a moment are as follows:
In the spur of a moment, a lightning strikes (already it is cloudy) and blinds the eyes of the hunter. At that moment, he releases the arrow missing and zipping past the deer. At that moment the arrow hits and injures the lion badly. At that moment, it starts to rain heavily and puts out the forest fire. At the very next moment, the deer gives birth to a healthy fawn.
Lesson:
In our life, it’s our moment of choice and we all have to deal with such negative thoughts coming from all sides always. Some thoughts are so powerful they overpower us and make us clueless.
“If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought.” – Peace Pilgrim
“Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts.” – Buddha
Let us not decide anything in a hurry. Let’s think of ourselves as the pregnant deer with the ultimate happy ending. Anything can happen in a moment in this life. If one is religious, superstitious, atheist, agnostic or whatever, one can attribute this moment as divine intervention, faith, sudden luck, chance (serendipity), coincidence or a simple ‘don’t know’. We all feel the same. But, whatever one may call it, the priority of the deer in that given moment was to give birth to a baby, because life is precious.
Life is lived dynamically in the present. Always live in the present moment, neither in the past nor in the future. Living in the present means conscious action, not mechanical movement. So, the focus should always be on what should be the priority in a given moment. Hence, whether one is a deer or a human, one should keep that shraddhaa (faith plus the element of surrender) and positive attitude within always.
One tree makes 100,000 matchsticks.
But one matchstick can burn 100,000 trees.
Similarly, one negative thought or doubt can burn thousands of dreams…
Don’t entertain negative thoughts in the mind nor let negative and toxic people have rent-free space in the mind. Raise the rent and kick them out.

This story speaks of a very strong self-confidence and faith. I know negative thoughts can destroy all our dreams and self-confidence. In this story, the deer teaches us that in spite of many difficulties in life, if our confidence level is high and we have faith in our abilities and the Lord, we can deal with those situations and overcome them. When we completely surrender to our Lord and our Sadguru, their grace and blessings always help us to deal with any situation.
Your blessings are always with me ?
